Real-Life People #6

I have a buddy who is a real scrounger. Over the years, he’s held a variety of jobs and worked for a multitude of people, but he has mostly been self-employed. His career path is one that many people would consider to be unconventional. Along the way, however, he’s been disciplined with his money and diligent with his savings in order to invest in real estate.

My friend has found success with this strategy for a few notable reasons. First, he is incredibly gifted at making the most of his resources and squeezing the value out of every opportunity he encounters. Second, he puts in a ton of hard work on his properties. Third, he doesn’t have a typical job schedule, so he has the time and capability to make repairs on properties, build properties, and manage his units. Overall, he is extremely hands-on and isn’t afraid to get dirty.

Even though he has taken a unique route to get to where he is today, my friend made a plan to invest in real estate and has executed it well! Today, he has around 70 rental properties, and it has been amazing to watch him put these rentals together, manage them well, and add value to his tenants’ lives.

Right now, my friend is starting to think about retirement. Thanks to all of his hard work and self-sacrifice, he has a ton of assets that can take care of him in his older years. To me, his example proves that you don’t have to have the perfect job, income, or resources to get involved in rental properties. My friend started where he was, saved diligently, bought what he could afford, and embraced hard work to build his own legacy. Not everyone has to take the same path when it comes to real estate investing.
